That Wasn't There Last Time We Looked! ⬅ previous ⬆intro next ➡Day 8 ~ 22 May ~ Alqueva Lake ![]() It's long before I'm awake, but Amanda is checking out the birds who seem to like our safety cables. We don't know why, we certainly aren't feeding them or anything, but then maybe other boats do and they've learnt to be prepared. So this is as far North as we're going to go, and we'll now start our return journey. We'll take it in as leisurely a fashion as the outward leg, we're not in any hurry. ![]() And here we are at the Campinho jetty. Hmm... look at how the bridge to shore looks a bit sunken... ![]() Yes, indeed, you have to get a little wet or be bold on your bicycle to reach the shore. ![]() So here's me being bold on my bicycle. ![]() Anyway, we're onshore now. Onwards! ![]() Campinho's church. What, no storks?! ![]() I mentioned earlier we bought some ceramic swallows. This is the typical way they're used, on people's outside walls. ![]() "Herdade" means farm or estate in Portuguese; I think they're advertising their olives. ![]() As we don't have any specific local documentation except the most general basic facts, we are reliant on digital maps. Google is pretty useless outside built-up areas, but OSM is generally very good. However, "bicycle route" can be interpreted in various ways and not every bicycle would be happy on this one. ![]() Peacocks in somebody's garden! We hadn't realised that Portugal was so peacocky. (We saw wild ones in India and were a bit thrown by the idea that they weren't ornamental imports.) ![]() While we're sitting in the village square having our lunch, what we can only assume is a mobile shop passes by. The driver or an associate is making announcements by loudspeaker which we don't understand but are presumably to drum up business. ![]() Amanda is not so gung-ho returning to the boat. We want to cross back to Luz and see the museum which was closed when we first visited, but should be open now. ![]() Remember the stork on the church by the museum? We can just see she has babies in her nest this time. The museum is small but interesting, but we don't seem to have taken any photos of it, so I'll just direct you to the website: https://museudaluz.org.pt/en/home_en/. ![]() And I will leave you with yet another fine sunset. ⬅ previous ⬆intro next ➡ |
