That Wasn't There Last Time We Looked! ⬅ previous ⬆introDay 12 ~ 26 May ~ Évora to London ![]() Goodbye Number 5, we've been most pleased with our choice. This time we are taking the faster roads that we need to be a bit careful on, but it's not that bad; we aren't losing a huge amount of time compared to what we'd normally do and we're in no real rush anyway. ![]() Those storks get everywhere! Obviously not in the slightest bit concerned by a mere four hundred thousand volts a few metres away. ![]() Onto the causeway section of the Vasco da Gama Bridge. ![]() And now the dramatic cable-stayed section. We drop the car off at the airport, paying for the damage to the wheel, but there is no real fuss about it and it takes us very little time. The bill comes to nearly £700 which I confess is more than I was expecting, but we've got insurance to cover it so that's ok too. No pictures of the departure lounge; you've all seen enough departure lounges to know what they look like. ![]() A final view of the bridge. You have no idea just how long it is when you drive it, and even observing it from the city we were a bit too far away to get a real feel for it. ![]() Our return trip is uneventful: we're home, and I'll end with the box of goodies we bought from the sardine shop. So it's taken 34 years, but we've changed our minds about Portugal completely. Now we will look forward to going away for my birthday in September. We have no past there, though: 34 years ago, Montenegro didn't even exist as a country. But that's just like the Alqueva lake. Synchronicity or what? THE END ⬅ previous ⬆intro |
